Hi friends ... here's a twist in biryani . 

CHOW CHOW (CHAYOTE) BIRYANI 



INGREDIENTS:

Raw Rice – 1 cup
Chickpeas – 1/4 cup, soaked

Soya Chunks (Meal Maker) – 8

Onion – 1, big

Chow Chow (Chayote) – 1 cup, peeled, grated

Curd – 1/2 cup

Red Chilli Powder – 1 tblsp

Carrot – 1/4 cup, grated

Cashewnuts – 2 tblsp, broken

Bread Slices – 4, cut into small squares

Ghee – 3 tblsp

Oil – 4 tblsp

Salt as per taste


TO GRIND:

Tomato – 1

Coconut – 1/4 cup, grated

Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp

Green Chillies – 2

Coriander Leaves – 2 tblsp

Ginger – a small piece


METHOD:

1. Combine all the ingredients given to grind and grind to a smooth paste.

2. Soak the soya chunks for 20 minutes.

3. Dry roast the rice for a minute and remove.

4. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.

5. Saute the onions for a minute or until translucent.

6. Add the chow chow, carrot and stir well.

7. Add red chilli powder and stir again.

8. Drain water from the soya chunks and add to the cooker.

9. Add the ground paste and stir until well combined.

10. Mix 1 cup water with curd and pour into the cooker.

 11. Add rice, chickpeas and salt.

12. Stir until well combined.

13. Pressure cook until 1 whistle and remove.

14. Heat ghee in a pan.

15. Fry the cashewnuts and bread squares.

16. Add to the biryani and mix.

17. Serve hot with raita or sidedish of choice.
